With clients like ModCloth and The Style Line and collaborations with Free People and Huffington Post, Christina (Shields) Pearson of Christina Shields Photography is brilliant beyond words. What started as only an interested, her profound photographs launched her eponymous business as a professional photographer in 2009.
Combining her degree in Marketing and Management along with her television media and magazine experience, Christina began establishing herself as a fashion and portraiture photographer in the Pittsburgh area. Christina’s visionary photography has launched her career to New York City and beyond, working with clients from Sam Edelman to Homepolish.
At JPC, we are honored to not only call Christina (Shields) Pearson a friend, but have also been fortunate enough to collaborate with her on several inspired shoots and events. From our Herbs and Plaid tasting at Rustic Acres Farm, to an editorial shoot at Buhl Mansion, to mouthwatering food sessions at the kitchens of Savor Fresh Catering- shooting with Christina is always an inspiring adventure!

Get to know this week’s #PhotoCrush, the ever chic and always lovely Christina (Shields) Pearson of Christina Shields Photography:
How long have you been in business?
I’ve been a photographer for 6 years! I started with an Accounting major in college but found it wasn’t a right fit. I fell in love with photography after one beginner course and graduated with Marketing as a self taught photographer.
What is your favorite photograph you’ve shot? What inspires you?
My favorite photograph I’ve shot is the first photo that made me realize that photographing people is the direction I want to focus my photography in.

How would you describe your photography style? (e.g. traditional, photo journalistic, creative)
My style of photography in presentation has a film look to it and I believe that the people I photography are being caught in a story. I’d say I bring photo journalism to fashion in my images. When I shoot, I try to blend into the background and shoot what unfolds naturally. Even with models. Sometimes I give direction so that I can capture them at the end of accomplishing the pose I had asked them to make.
What do you think distinguishes your work from that of other photographers?
I feel like this is the toughest question for a photographer to answer because there are so many unbelievably talented photographers in the world. What I like to think separates me from the rest, isn’t just my style of shooting, but the overall experience a client and photography team will have with me. I think a lot of photographers look past this aspect of the business and it’s always my number one priority. What I can bring to the table before and after a shoot is just as crucial.
What type of equipment do you use?
I use a Canon Mark II and mainly use the Canon 1.2 85mm, 35mm, and 70-200mm lens.

Do you shoot in digital or film format or both?
Digital! Film is on my to do list.
What was your favorite or most memorable event/opportunity that you photographed?
This answer is always changing but I’d have to say this past year it has changed for me the most. At first it was my first official on-location campaign shoot in Joshua Tree, CA. That led to a collaboration with Free People during my trip to Japan. Then it was landing work with one of my favorite shoe brands, Sam Edelman. Most recently I’d have to say it was shooting a fashion brand’s lookbook and a beautiful studio in SoHo.
