Holidays: Old Hollywood Glamour Style
February 16, 2011
When asked to sponsor the Butler County Chamber of Commerce holiday celebration at The Grand Ballroom, we knew just the direction we wanted to go– Old Hollywood Glamour.
In an effort to give red and green a rest, we chose a wintery color pallette of snow white and glistening silver accented by mercury glass, crystals, crinkle taffeta and mirrors. Our first order of business was some drama…because it isn’t hollywood without that. We decided that a pipe and drape application with a large projection of “It’s A Wonderful Life” would be just the ticket for this show. Lighting– we knew that we needed LOTS of lighting to make the room awash in holiday glow…and 10 white christmas trees with white lighting was the first layer. The second layer was white uplighting place strategically in the room to uplight the mirrors, acrylic chiavari and acrylic ghost chairs, and the food stations. And the final layer– CANDLELIGHT and lots of it. With our extensive mercury glass collection we were able to place pillar candles everywhere…along with an eclectic collection of unique glass votive holders that we have amassed this year.

Next modern white leather lounge seating was brought in from our JPC collection to add to the glamour feel and offer more seating for guests as they celebrated the season. Cocktail tables with sumptuous crinkle taffeta linens and candlelight, along with table groupings seating four were available throughout the room. This created a great traffic flow to the stations.
The food stations were designed with grazing in mind. The room centered around an elegant artisan cheese display of assorted dried fruits, nuts, imported olives, honey and crackers resplendent with a silver and crystal manzanita centerpiece.
Our bookcase station showcased an organic arugala asparagus and sundried tomato with a house lemon vinaigrette and shaved parmesan garnish, our famous JPC loaded potato martinis with fresh chives, applewood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese and creme fraiche atop whipped yukon gold potatoes, and our champagne sorbet mini martinis garnished with organic berry skewers.

The Mirror station featured BBQ braised shortrib sliders on our JPC brioche rolls with handcut coleslaw garnish, espresso cup soup shots of wild mushroom brie bisque and tomato basil bisque, and our trendy stuffed chicken breast “cupcakes” with white wine reduction drizzle.

The Winterscape Dessert station was sparkly and delicious with silver lustred bonbons in mint and traditional chocolate, banana bonbons dipped in milk and white chocolate some with nut garnish, our famous cheesecake pops, a white and silver holiday candy display in apothecary urns, and a torched s’mores display with live chef attendant torching of the marshmellows.

JPC service staff also hand butlered sesame shrimp skewers, our trendy JPC artisan pasta forks, crispy asiago asparagus in phyllo, and stuffed cremini mushroom caps on crystal mini forks.

We had a great time celebrating the season with our fellow chamber members and greatly enjoyed going off the beaten holiday path with our menu and decor!
